Obituary for John Vaclavik

John P. Vaclavik, 90, of Uniontown, Pa., died at 6:55 A.M. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Marquis Gardens Place, Uniontown. He was born August 11, 1928 in Rowes Run, Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa., a son of the late Paul and Mary (Snyder) Vaclavik.

Mr. Vaclavik was a 1946 graduate of Redstone Township High School and resided in Uniontown most of his life. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in Zuma, Japan. Mr. Vaclavik worked for Fike’s Dairy from 1948 until his retirement as plant manager in 1989. After retirement, he drove hearse for many local funeral homes served by Conaway Hearse and Limousine and later by Johnstown Hearse Rental as long as his health allowed. Mr. Vaclavik served as an usher at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47, Uniontown. He was a member of Teamsters Local 491 and a former member of the Uniontown Musical Society Local 596, American Federation of Musicians. On May 8, 1954, he married Gilda A. Micarelli, who died June 10, 2009.

Surviving are two daughters, Lavina Williams and her husband, Stewart, of Gaithersburg, Md. and Lisa Dye and her husband, Tim, of Uniontown; three grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Timmy Dye and his wife, Anna, and Bethany Dye; two great grandchildren, Mia and Vincent and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are a sister, Dorothy Vaclavik.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday in the Skirpan Funeral Home, Inc., 680 Cherry Tree Lane, Uniontown, Pa. Prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, October 12, 2018 in the funeral home, followed at 10:00 A.M. by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street, Uniontown, Pa. with the Rev. Anthony J. Klimko as celebrant. Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa. A parish wake service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday in the funeral home.
